The Mid-West University (MU) in Surkhet, Nepal, includes the Mid-West University Institute of Cooperation and Development (MICD), which is a significant part of the university’s efforts to foster higher-level intellectual platforms and international cooperation. MICD offers the Master of International Cooperation and Development degree, developed with assistance from the University of Pavia in Italy. This program aims to produce qualified human resources skilled in sustainable development and to strengthen the university’s international networking capabilities.
MICD, as a flagship program of MU, supports partnership development and networking with both national and international agencies. The Examination Management’s Office (EMO) is responsible for maintaining and updating student records concerning various aspects, such as admission, applications, grade reports, transcripts, enrollment in courses and so on. The Office also provides schools and teachers with needed University and student data and certifies the fulfillment of academic requirements for admission, graduation, and others. As a preemptive measure to respond to the need for having in place an institutionalized system approach to undertake the various policy research and innovation-related initiatives, Mid-West University established MU Policy Lab as a central structural system-based institution in September 2023.
Such action serves as a milestone not only in empowering the internal system and academic institutions of the University to undertake policy-lab-related initiatives as part of their core services but also in exploring and establishing wider relationships at policy and/or functional levels with the various levels of government and other national as well as international institutions seeking mutual collaborations on general or specific issues of policy concerns.
Around the world, governments are increasingly using data and evidence-based approaches to inform policymaking and measure the effectiveness of their programs. However, policymakers need much more than evidence, regardless of how robust it is. It requires different ways of engagement to help unlock policy problems, including intractable ones, and a shift away from top-down policymaking to more inclusive, bottom-up approaches.
The major tasks of policy interventions circle around issue realization, policy formulation, policy financing, policy coordination arrangements, policy implementation, and policy evaluation. MU Policy Lab stands for shouldering these tasks responsively. (Website: https://mupolicylab.edu.np/)
The Mid-West Central Library (MUCL) is an university library as institution of Mid-West university established along with university in 2010 AD (2069 BS). It is located on the grounds of the university’s core school in Birendranagar, Surkhet, Karnali Province 6.
